Many ways to unpeel the day

Paul and Dave arrive from the south by car. Kate arrives off the train, Andy comes from the north in a rusty old van. We meet in the evening for stories and talk about values and ways of relating, building projects, stalking sorties, art and aspirations. The house is full.
Yesterday, the stalkers took the photographer up the hill in the snow. Andy is up on the pottery roof in the dark, I stay to shine the light for him.
The stalkers saw nothing, the photographer saw a landscape washed clean with light reflected from below.
The slater shapes the leadwork: if its fine he’ll go snowboarding today; if not he’ll finish the roof.
The stalkers will wire in my machines in the workshop, the photographer will feed the cows.
Tomorrow I might follow any of these trades.
Tonight we gather by the fireside.
